White & Case Elevates Legal Talent Globally  

Global law firm White & Case has promoted 23 lawyers to local partner and 22 lawyers to counsel, showcasing the depth of talent within the firm. These promotions span 13 practices and 22 offices across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific, reflecting the diverse and global nature of White & Case.

In addition to these internal advancements, White & Case has also welcomed two new local partners and 14 counsel during 2023, further enhancing its legal capabilities. This included Raheel Butt, counsel, Financial Services Regulatory, Dubai & Riyadh 

The position of local partner, a recognized career step toward admission into Firm partnership, is offered in select regions and locations where it is common market practice. This includes Mexico in the Americas; Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, the Middle East, Poland, South Africa, and Spain in EMEA; and China, Japan, and Korea in Asia-Pacific. 

The role of counsel, tailored for senior lawyers with significant experience in a particular practice area, is used across all White & Case offices as an alternative career path to partnership. 

Among the promotions, Nezar Al-Abbas, Adnan Bekdur, Joshua Cohen, Jennifer Riddle, and Jad Slim have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective practice areas in the EMEA region. 

These appointments reflect White & Case’s commitment to nurturing legal talent and maintaining a diverse, global workforce capable of addressing the complex needs of its clients. 

The promotions are effective January 1, 2024 except where noted. 

Meet the new local partners and counsel working in the MENA Region: 

Nezar Al-Abbas has been appointed as a Local Partner in our Global Project Development and Finance Practice, based in Riyadh. His expertise lies in advising lenders and borrowers on various forms of Islamic and conventional financing, with a specific focus on corporate, trade, and project finance. 

Adnan Bekdur assumes the role of Local Partner in our Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice, stationed in Dubai. His practice centers on providing counsel to private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds, and other financial sponsors. Adnan’s expertise spans a range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and various corporate matters. 

Joshua Cohen has been named a Local Partner in our Global Project Development and Finance Practice, based in Doha. His practice is dedicated to advising procurers, government entities, sponsors, lenders, and financial institutions on projects and transactions in the energy, oil & gas, water, wastewater, and infrastructure sectors.  

Jennifer Riddle has been promoted to the role of Local Partner in the Global Project Development and Finance Practice, operating from Abu Dhabi. Her practice revolves around advising clients on project finance, energy, and infrastructure matters, with a specific focus on financing energy transition projects and large-scale tourism developments.  

Jad Slim takes on the role of Counsel in the Global Capital Markets Practice, based in Riyadh. His practice involves advising both international and domestic clients on corporate and securities matters, including initial public offerings and joint ventures. Jad’s expertise extends to corporate, Saudi regulatory, capital markets, customs, products regulatory requirements, and labour and employment law matters.
