Webuild’s $4.7B Splash: Neom’s Futuristic Marvel Unveiled

Under the legal guidance of Neom’s Chief Legal Officer, Stefan Ricketts (pictured), Neom and international construction company, Webuild has inked a groundbreaking contract worth USD 4.7 billion as part of the visionary development project in Neom, Saudi Arabia.

The project encompasses the construction of three dams, forming a 2.8-kilometer freshwater lake at Trojena, solidifying Webuild’s status as a frontrunner in the water sector on a global scale.

The Trojena mountain destination, a key element of the Saudi Vision 2030 program for economic diversification, is set to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games. This unique venture in the Saudi Arabian mountains is strategically positioned to play a pivotal role in the economic rejuvenation of the region.

Webuild’s responsibilities extend beyond dam construction to include the development of ‘The Bow,’ an architectural marvel poised to become a distinctive feature of the landscape. This visionary structure will house a hotel, residential area, and a central atrium, redefining the region’s skyline.

The main dam, reaching a height of 145 meters and made of roller-compacted concrete (RCC), will be a monumental engineering feat, holding a volume of approximately 2.7 million m³. Complementing this, a second dam in RCC and a third in rock, with a volume of 4.3 million m³, will further enhance the artificial lake’s grandeur. The expansive 1.5 km² lake will feature an island dedicated to botanical experiences.

At the heart of Webuild’s transformative project is the creation of the largest architecturally-crafted body of water in Saudi Arabia – the Trojena Lake. Designed in accordance with Trojena’s LAVA masterplan, the lake will be a central element in promoting sustainable living, environmental regeneration, and global prominence for water sports and entertainment in the region.

Webuild’s involvement in Neom extends beyond Trojena, with ongoing projects such as the construction of the Connector high-speed railway line and participation in various key initiatives across Saudi Arabia. With a history dating back to the 1960s, Webuild continues to leave an indelible mark on the Kingdom, having completed iconic projects like the Kingdom Centre in Riyadh and the Shuaibah-3 desalination plant in Jeddah.
