Sodic and EME Collaborate on VYE Solar Project in Cairo

Sodic, an Egypt-based real estate developer, has joined forces with Electro-Mechanical for Energy (EME) solar company, to initiate the installation of 400 rooftop solar panels at VYE, Sodic’s mixed-use development in West Cairo.

Overseeing all legal and compliance aspects of the transaction is Sodic’s General Counsel, Marwa El Khodary (pictured). This groundbreaking project is poised to become one of the most extensive residential solar-powered initiatives in Africa and the Middle East, strongly reflecting Sodic’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability.

The combined capacity of the rooftop solar plants will amount to approximately 2MWp of clean energy, resulting in significant annual savings of 3.5GWh of electricity and a remarkable reduction of 1,600 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 35,000 trees.

Ayman Amer, Sodic’s General Manager, expressed the company’s dedication to implementing sustainable practices, emphasizing concrete steps towards carbon reduction. He also highlighted the significance of this project as the largest residential solar endeavor in Africa. Sodic eagerly anticipates working with EME to bring this vision to fruition while fostering a community that champions environmental consciousness.

Mohamed Elsheikh, CEO of EME, shared his enthusiasm about this collaboration, marking the second official partnership between Sodic and EME. Their previous success in implementing HUB parking shades in 2019/2020 allowed SODIC’s headquarters to operate primarily on clean energy. EME is eager to continue supporting Sodic’s sustainable strategies and further reduce its carbon footprint through additional eco-friendly projects.

VYE represents the first of three neighborhoods within the expansive 464-acre development. These neighborhoods offer diverse living solutions and provide seamless access to shared features and amenities. The entire development is intricately connected through walkable green pathways and revolves around community hubs, promoting a carefree and active outdoor lifestyle. Collectively, these three neighborhoods will give rise to a distinctive mixed-use development that will serve as the heart of New Zayed’s city center.
