MBH advises Salcef to advance Egypt’s railways
Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy (MBH) acted as legal advisor to Salcef Group – an Italian construction and engineering company with a focus on railway infrastructures – for its 25-year joint venture agreement with the Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENR) and the Transport Logistics Company (TLC).
The agreement
Under the agreement, a new joint venture company, “Salcef Track,” has been established to oversee the construction, renovation, and maintenance of railway lines across Egypt. Salcef will play a leading role in managing the project’s implementation and execution.
The joint venture’s initial phase involves the projected renovation of 300 kilometers of railway and 200 switches, with an minimum annual target of 100 kilometers and 70 switches. Over the course of the 25-year partnership, Salcef Track aims to renovate a total of 2,500 kilometers of track and 1,750 switches. The company will also support the construction of new railway lines for ENR and the Ministry of Transport, thus exploring opportunities to expand its operations into railway projects across Africa and the Middle East.
