Mazghouny & Co assists Scatec in 5GW Wind Power Project

Mazghouny & Co Projects & Infrastructure team has assisted Scatec with the review of the agreement executed with the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) for granting access to the site.

Mazghouny & Co has acted as legal counsel to Norwegian company Scatec with the signing of an agreement with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, represented by the New and Renewable Energy Authority.
The purpose of the agreement is to allocate a specific piece of land in the West Sohag region for the construction of a 5-gigawatt wind power plant. The project is estimated to require an investment of USD5 billion.

As per the agreement, the planned wind power plant in West Sohag will generate 5 gigawatts of electricity annually. The project will contribute to Egypt’s target of having renewable energy account for 42% of the country’s energy mix by 2030. It will also create approximately 8,000 job opportunities during the construction phase, while providing around 300 permanent job opportunities.
