King & Spalding with e& on AI JV
King & Spalding represented e& (formerly Etisalat) on its entry into a seminal AI joint venture (JV) with SK Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Singtel and SoftBank Corp.
e& and the other founding parties have come together to form the Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) to co-develop and launch multilingual Large Language Models (Telco LLM) specifically tailored to the needs of telecommunications companies through the JV.
The JV will see equal investments from the founding parties to support the development of Telco LLM that will aim to help telcos improve their customer interactions.

A team of lawyers from King & Spalding’s Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh and London offices advised e& on this matter. Partners Macky O’Sullivan (pictured left), Nabil A. Issa (pictured center) and senior associate Mohammed Basama (pictured right) (all based in Dubai) led the team, which further included Kim Roberts and Damien Bailey.
About the joint venture
The JV will look at deploying AI applications tailored to the needs of the founding parties in their respective markets, enabling them to reach a global customer base of approximately 1.3 billion across 50 countries.
The Telco LLM will be multilingual including: Korean, English, German, Arabic, and Bahasa among other languages. The launch of the JV is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
