Sue Ellen Hassouna joins Al Futtaim Group as General Counsel
Al Futtaim Group, a renowned conglomerate operating across the Middle East, has appointed Sue Ellen Hassouna (pictured) as its General Counsel. With over 15 years of legal experience in Egypt, Hassouna is poised to assume a pivotal role in the group’s legal landscape.
Before joining Al Futtaim Group, Hassouna served as the Chief Legal Officer at Lafarge Cement for eight months, showcasing her agility and depth of expertise in the legal profession. Her career has been marked by significant contributions to various prominent companies in Egypt, where she held key positions, including Executive Legal Director at Heineken Egypt, Country Legal Director at TotalEnergies Egypt, counsel at Etisalat Misr, General Counsel at Damac Properties, and senior counsel at Citystars.
Sue Ellen Hassouna’s professional journey reflects a diverse and accomplished background in law. Notably, she has founded and chairs the Sue Ellen Foundation for Legal Development, an organization committed to advancing and nurturing the legal profession in Egypt. Her dedication extends to academia, as she serves as an assistant professor at the American University in Cairo, sharing her knowledge and expertise with aspiring legal minds.
Hassouna’s vast legal knowledge and experience has earned recognition from both governmental and non-governmental entities. She currently sits on the Board of Trustees of the Financial Supervision Authority at the Arbitration Center for Non-Banking Transactions, where she plays a pivotal role in providing guidance and counsel on arbitration-related matters. Additionally, she was chosen by the Ministry of Justice to participate in the Special Committee responsible for deliberating the Egyptian arbitration law and settling disputes related to investment contracts.
