Stewarts Unveils Specialized Costs and Funding Disputes Service

Litigation law firm Stewarts has introduced its innovative Costs and Funding Disputes service, featuring a dedicated team of litigation, costs, and insurance experts. This service caters to litigants, funders, law firms, and insurers, focusing on high-value and intricate disputes related to legal costs, litigation funding, and legal expenses insurance.

In instances where disputes or potential conflicts of interest arise, the Costs and Funding team provides independent advice and representation, even when another firm has handled the substantive litigation or drafted the original fee or funding agreements. Stewarts is positioned to assist parties in high-value disputes in securing optimal terms for various funding arrangements with lawyers, third-party litigation funders, or insurers.

Julian Chamberlayne, Risk and Funding Partner at Stewarts (pictured), commented, “Our new team brings together deep subject matter expertise of commercial litigators, policyholder disputes specialists, and cost lawyers to advise clients on complex issues arising from legal costs and funding arrangements.” Stewarts, with over 25 years of leadership in costs and funding, has been actively involved in high-value and complex disputes, including those for litigation funders. The firm’s early adoption of various agreements like conditional fee agreements (CFA), after-the-event (ATE) insurance, third-party litigation funding, and damages-based agreements (DBA) reflects its commitment to innovative legal solutions. Stewarts continues to advocate for law reform in cost and funding matters to enhance options for clients.

This initiative underscores Stewarts’ ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and rigorous services in the ever-evolving landscape of legal costs and funding.
