Stephenson Harwood’s new Dubai partner: Ryan Whelan
Stephenson Harwood bolsters its Dubai dispute resolution practice with the arrival of partner Ryan Whelan (pictured).
Before Whelan’s addition and throughout the last 18 months, five partners joined the firm’s Dubai office; namely Iwan Walters (projects, energy and infrastructure), Ron Nobbs (head of Middle East construction disputes), John Lewis (head of Middle East general commercial litigation & international arbitration), Mohamed El Hawawy (head of Middle East Shipping and Insurance), and Khurram Ali (maritime, trade and offshore).
The profile
A specialist across the infrastructure and energy sector, Ryan Whelan spent over seven years with Gibson Dunn between London and Dubai. Most recently, he led the Middle East infrastructure disputes team at Akin.
Whelan often advises companies within the energy and infrastructure sector, as well as sovereign states, sovereign wealth funds, and national oil companies. His activity spans energy, renewables, water, and infrastructure projects throughout the Middle East, Africa and internationally.
Moreover, he has acted in international arbitrations under major institutional rules. His litigation experience spans a wide variety of countries and jurisdictions, including the London High Courts, local Courts across the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East region, as well as The Grand Court in the Cayman Islands.
