Shehab Farouk Appointed Legal Director at CMS Oman 

Global law firm CMS has welcomed Shehab Farouk (pictured) as the Legal Director in the Disputes Resolution team based in Muscat, Oman. With over 15 years of experience in international commercial arbitration in the Middle East, Shehab Farouk’s appointment is poised to strengthen CMS’s standing in the field of dispute resolution. 

Farouk’s extensive legal practice encompasses a wide range of specialties, with a primary focus on providing expert advice and counsel on matters related to Omani law. His client portfolio is as diverse as it is global, spanning both local and international entities. His expertise extends to civil, commercial, corporate, arbitration, and construction law, making him a sought-after figure in the realm of legal dispute resolution. 

Notably, Farouk has represented major construction companies in both state court and arbitral tribunal proceedings. His proficiency has extended to acting as counsel in ad-hoc and institutional arbitration, including institutions such as the LCIA (London Court of International Arbitration), ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), DIAC (Dubai International Arbitration Centre), SCCA (Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration), OAC (Oman Arbitration Centre), UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law), and CRCICA (Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration). 

In addition to his legal practice, Farouk has made significant contributions to the field of arbitration. In 2020, he played a pivotal role in drafting the Arbitration and Mediation rules for the Oman Commercial Arbitration Centre, demonstrating his commitment to shaping the legal landscape in Oman. He also imparts his knowledge by teaching International Commercial Arbitration to candidates in Saudi Arabia through SCCA and in Oman through OAC. Moreover, Farouk has designed and delivered training programs on dispute resolution topics, including “Drafting Dispute Resolution Clauses” and “Arbitral Tribunal Secretary Preparation” for OAC and SCCA. 

Shehab Farouk’s achievements in the field of arbitration have earned him the distinguished title of a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), the highest level of membership within the institute. Furthermore, he has been newly appointed as the Regional Representative for LCIA YIAG (London Court of International Arbitration Young International Arbitrators Group) for the Middle East in 2023, demonstrating his commitment to promoting and advancing the practice of international arbitration.
