Saint-Gobain Expands Construction Chemicals Presence in Egypt

Barakat Maher & Partners in association with Clyde & Co have provided legal counsel to Saint-Gobain on its complete acquisition of United Paints and Chemicals, known as Drymix, a leading manufacturer of ready-mix mortars serving the construction industry in Egypt.

Saint-Gobain has had a presence in Egypt since 2006, operating seven manufacturing plants and employing 575 individuals. This acquisition further accelerates the company’s growth in the country by expanding its range of solutions in the areas of glass, gypsum, and construction chemicals. It follows the recent inauguration of a Saint-Gobain plant that produces technical mortars, including adhesive and waterproofing materials, in Egypt, as well as the acquisition of IDP Chemicals in admixtures at the beginning of 2023.

Established in 1997, Drymix has established itself as a prominent name in the Egyptian market for ready-mix mortars, offering a wide range of products, services, and training programs for craftsmen in the country. The company currently operates a plant in “6th of October city,” located 45 km from Cairo, and employs 185 people.

The acquisition of Drymix aligns with Saint-Gobain’s strategic plan, “Grow & Impact,” which aims to strengthen the company’s leadership position and accelerate its growth by offering an enhanced range of solutions for lightweight and sustainable construction.
