Vinson & Elkins: Nabeel Ikram new head of international disputes – MENA 

Vinson & Elkins has appointed partner Nabeel Ikram (pictured) as the head of international disputes for MENA region. 

Ikram’s area of practise focuses on engineering and construction dispute resolution. He has two decades of experience advising clients on contentious engineering and construction matters. He is vastly experienced in arbitration under a variety of rules, including the DIAC, the ICC, and the LCIA as well as ad-hoc arbitrations. 

In addition to construction disputes, Nabeel has vast experience of handling commercial disputes including relating to shareholder disputes, Islamic finance transactions, SPAs, put options, franchise, management, services, licensing, and distribution agreements across a range of sectors. These include energy, leisure, hospitality, financial services, banking, insurance IT/tech, education and health. 

Ikram first qualified as a lawyer in 2000, while working as a trainee solicitor at Hogan Lovells London offices. He continued his legal career with the firm for a decade before parting ways as a senior associate. He then joined Clyde & Co Dubai practise for 4 years, followed by a short stint at Dewey & LeBouf. Ikram made partner in 2012 when he first joined Dechert. He later returned to his first employer, this time serving as a partner in Dubai for almost 6 years. Ikram joined Vinson & Elkins in March of 2022.
