Mohamed Barakat joins Clyde & Co as corporate & advisory partner

Global law firm Clyde & Co has hired corporate and M&A lawyer Mohamed Barakat (pictured) as a partner in the Middle East and Africa (“MEA”) region and its global corporate & advisory practice.

With more than 17 years of experience working in the United States and the Middle East, Barakat has a deep understanding of the region and advises clients on complex M&A and restructuring transactions in the energy, financial services, infrastructure and real estate sectors.

Barakat’s appointment aligns with Clyde & Co’s strategic expansion of its Corporate & Advisory practice globally and in the Middle East and Africa. In the last 12 months, the firm has bolstered its 19-strong MEA corporate partner group with the hire of Chadi Salloum (Dubai) and Gasant Orrie (Cape Town), and the promotion to partner of Roshanak Bassiri Gharb (Dubai).

Naji Hawayek, Partner and Head of Corporate, Middle East, comments: “Mohamed will play an instrumental role in supporting the growth of our corporate practice, and we are delighted to welcome him. He has a reputation as the go-to advisor to US corporations operating across the Middle East and Africa, and his appointment bolsters our ability to advise businesses on their domestic and cross-border transactions in key jurisdictions.”

Mohamed Barakat comments: “Clyde & Co is one of the leading law firms in the Middle East and its corporate practice has a strong reputation of managing big-ticket transactions across the region. The firm’s rapid growth and integrated global network will allow me to further enhance my practice and respond to clients’ needs as the markets across the region are seeing significant cross-border investments and transactions.”
