Mazghouny & Co Guides Scatec in Landmark Solar Collaboration
Mazghouny & Co played a pivotal role in advising Scatec during the early stages of its collaboration with the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) for the development of Egypt’s largest hybrid solar and battery storage project. The cooperation agreement, inked on December 2, 2023, at COP28, focuses on a substantial 1GW solar and 200 MWh battery storage initiative.
By combining solar PV and battery storage technologies, the project aims to overcome intermittency challenges, enhance grid stability, and ensure a consistent supply of green power by releasing stored energy during peak demand.
The Energy & Power team led by managing partner, Donia El-Mazghouny (pictured) has supported Scatec with the drafting of the cooperation agreement for this landmark project and its negotiation with EEHC.
The project successfully obtained the Cabinet approval in its meeting of 30 November 2023, as part of Egypt’s efforts to increase the renewables share in its electricity mix, avoid any power outages, and most importantly free up natural gas for export.
