Freshfields with Bahrain Mumtalakat in McLaren Racing acquisition

Freshfields represented McLaren and its major shareholder Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, the sovereign wealth fund of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in connection with McLaren’s acquisition of all shares in McLaren Racing from MSP Sports Capital, funds managed by O’Connor Capital Solutions, Ares Sports, Media and Entertainment funds, and Caspian Funds.

From 2027 onwards, McLaren will encompass a portfolio of racing teams, competing in Formula 1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

Partners Rhys Evans (pictured left) and Damien Zoubek (pictured right) led the Freshfields team on the matter, working alongside senior associate Max Sanders and associate Jack Robb. Partner Tom McGrath led antitrust advise, while tax advice was overseen by partner Paul Davison.
