Riad & Riad advises on Egypt’s first Light Railway Transit

Riad & Riad advises the consortium of China Railway Engineering Corporation (“CREC”) and AVIC International Holding Corporation (“AVIC INTL”) as the EPC contractor of the 10th of Ramadan Light Rail Transit (LRT). 

Measuring 67 kilometers in length, the USD 1.24 billion project introduces the first Light Railway Transit (LRT) in Egypt. With the maximum speed of 120 km per hour, the railway has 12 stations in total. The project will connect the new administrative capital with various cities in Cairo, including Obour, Shorouk, Badr, Mostakbal, 10th of Ramadan, Al Salam cities with the capacity of transporting around 1 million passengers daily. 

The electric railway was contracted by the consortium of CREC and AVIC INTL, with China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co. and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co participating in the construction. 

Throughout the last three years and going on, Riad & Riad team, led by founding partner Eman Riad (pictured), has provided the Consortium with myriad of services in various legal areas including advising on project agreements, taxes, customs, labour and employment, social insurance and dispute resolution.
