Majid Al Futtaim and Dubai Municipality Team Up for Food Security
Dubai Municipality and Majid Al Futtaim – Retail have joined forces in a strategic partnership aimed at ensuring the sustainable provision of essential food commodities in Dubai’s local markets. Majid Al Futtaim – Retail, the exclusive franchise operator of Carrefour in the UAE, will collaborate closely with Dubai Municipality to enhance coordination and address potential challenges in the food supply chain.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two entities marks a significant step forward in advancing food security measures and strengthening the Emirate’s resilience in the face of future crises. The agreement, signed by Alia Al Harmoodi, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health, and Safety Agency, and Jean-Luc Graziato, Chief Commercial Officer of Majid Al-Futtaim – Retail, underscores the commitment to establishing a sustainable food system and fostering flexible supply chains.
Al Harmoodi emphasized that the collaboration aims to elevate the quality of life in Dubai by ensuring the availability of high-nutritional-value goods and diversifying import sources. The agreement will support Majid Al Futtaim – Retail in enhancing the flexibility, readiness, and preparedness of the emirate’s supply chain through efficient coordination and data sharing on the Food Security Platform.
Jean-Luc Graziato highlighted the importance of food security in Majid Al Futtaim – Retail’s sustainability strategy, emphasizing the company’s commitment to creating a more sustainable, healthier, and safer future for customers. The partnership will enable Carrefour to strengthen its position as a key provider of essential products in the UAE by leveraging accurate consumer data to enhance customer service and support Dubai Municipality’s food security efforts.
The MoU outlines provisions for electronic connectivity regarding strategic food commodity data, monitoring challenges impacting supply chains, and implementing awareness-raising programs for sustainable food security practices. It also aims to improve coordination and communication between both parties to address risks associated with food security crises and emergencies, ensuring expedited responses and mitigating shortages.
