DP World Launches USD35 Million Global Education Initiative
DP World, under the guidance of Faisal Arekat (pictured), Group Senior Vice President of Legal, Governance & Company Secretary, has unveiled its Global Education Platform as part of a $35 million commitment to educational initiatives by 2030. This platform offers over 15 tailored resources and e-learning courses in science and logistics for students aged 11-18, educators, and employees, all aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The platform, designed to demystify the logistics sector, aims to equip individuals with essential skills for success in companies like DP World. It includes guides, training materials, and an opportunity for students to earn DP World’s Certificate in Terminal Operations qualification for free, supporting their personal and career development.
In addition to the Global Education Platform, DP World has formed partnerships with organizations such as the Jane Goodall Institute, WaterAid, Minding My Waste, and Blue Marine Foundation. These collaborations enrich the platform with valuable resources, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience.
Furthermore, DP World has joined forces with Teach for All, a global network of organizations committed to developing collective leadership to ensure all children reach their full potential. This partnership will focus on providing training and resources on climate education and skills for young people, particularly in South Africa, Senegal, Argentina, and Pakistan.
DP World’s education strategy aims to reach 1.5 million students by 2030, with a particular focus on increasing knowledge transfer and skill development, especially among women and girls. This initiative is in response to the UN’s projection that without additional measures, millions of children and young people will still lack access to quality education and necessary skills by 2030.
Education is a fundamental pillar of DP World’s sustainability strategy, ‘Our World, Our Future,’ aligned with the UN’s SDGs of quality education and gender equality. Since 2020, DP World has invested over $20 million in global education programs, including infrastructure, scholarships, and skill-building initiatives in STEM.
