Dentons launches AI-powered contract automation bot

Dentons continues to be at the forefront of using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to simplify contract automation. The firm has trained LLM (Large Language Model, a text recognition and generation AI programme) to understand the coding language of Contract Express (a contracting platform that helps lawyers streamline and accelerate contract generation and completion processes), creating a bot that can automate the generation of coded templates with a single command.
About the prototype
The prototype is being tested in continental Europe by a group of Dentons lawyers including Spanish office partner Luis Belart, along with associates Mar Sánchez-Contador and Icíar Pérez-Puente. Specifically, this group of lawyers has access to the prototype so that they can automate documents themselves without the need for programming skills or technical knowledge and with minimal training. Thus, using a single command, the bot generates a coded template that is compatible with Contract Express, which in turn produces a formatted first draft and provides suggested questions.
The result should then be exported to Word for the lawyer to review and quality control.
Břetislav Šimral, Director of Innovation and Intelligence at Dentons explains that ‘to enable Contract Express to automate the documents, the template first needs to be created, something that, traditionally, was done by a member of our team and could take up to one or two days to create. In this way, he adds, ‘by combining Contract Express with the AI capabilities of our new bot, we can decentralise document creation and allow any lawyer to create templates in a matter of minutes’.
Luis Belart, partner in the finance practice at Dentons Spain and the driving force behind the pilot in Europe, says: ‘Corporate venturing and the cutting edge of legal services is part of Dentons’ DNA. ‘Since the creation of Nextlaw Labs (our legal venture investment platform), we have always been committed to offering innovative solutions that benefit our clients. The addition of this tool will allow us to accompany our professionals, enabling them to address strategic and complex issues, powered by cutting-edge technology that improves efficiency without compromising the value we provide in every transaction,’ he concludes.
While the current bot is designed for use with Contract Express, Dentons will examine how to apply a similar concept to other platforms.
