Clifford Chance: Expo City Dubai launches sustainable residential projects

International law firm Clifford Chance has provided legal services to Expo City Dubai during the successful off-plan launch of two sustainable residential projects, namely “Mangrove Residences” and “Expo Valley.”

Mangrove Residences is set to feature a collection of apartment units with picturesque views of landscaped gardens and Expo City Dubai’s renowned attractions. On the other hand, Expo Valley, consisting of villas and townhouses, will be situated amidst a pristine nature reserve and will be seamlessly connected to various attractions through a dedicated ‘green link’ corridor designed for pedestrians, cyclists, and autonomous vehicles.

This launch marks a significant milestone in Expo City Dubai’s transformation of the Expo 2020 Dubai event site into a dynamic mixed-use master community. The development stands as a shining example of environmentally conscious urban planning, with Expo City Dubai’s commitment to preserving 80% of the Expo 2020 infrastructure. This approach showcases sustainable principles across design, construction, and operations. Notably, Expo City Dubai aims to pioneer sustainability initiatives in the region, notably as a car-free zone, and it will be Dubai’s first fully 5G-enabled community.

Clifford Chance’s contributions included the preparation of comprehensive off-plan sale and jointly-owned property documentation, facilitating unit sales, and supporting the ongoing management of these developments post-completion.

The Clifford Chance team advising Expo City Dubai was led by Dubai partner and head of real estate Tariq Imam (pictured) with support from Sher Khan (senior associate), Nicholas Chan (senior associate), Leen Kayali (trainee solicitor), Johnson Cortelek (trainee solicitor) and Hessa Al Qassim (legal advisor).

In reference to the development, Tariq Imam comments: “We are delighted to have supported Expo City Dubai on the successful launch of these eco-friendly residential developments, which will hopefully raise the bar in terms of sustainable living in Dubai and the UAE. We have also advised Expo City Dubai on various aspects of the wider development and repurposing of the Expo 2020 Dubai event site, and the launch of these unique projects is an important step in that process.”
