Charles Russell Speechlys Expands into Singapore
International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys has announced its expansion into Southeast Asia with the official opening of its Singapore office. The new office will be headed by partner Jeffrey Lee, who is currently based in the firm’s Hong Kong office.
Jeffrey Lee, originally from Singapore, relocated to Hong Kong in March 2019 following several years of practice in London. He specializes in advising international clients on complex international structuring, including estate and succession planning, asset protection, and personal tax mitigation. Lee also has expertise in tax planning for non-UK domiciled individuals relocating to the UK.
Lee will be supported by Simon Green, the Head of Asia at Charles Russell Speechlys. Green’s areas of expertise include large-scale mixed-use development and redevelopment projects, commercial and residential property investment, real estate management, and real estate finance, including both Islamic and conventional financing. He also has significant experience in the hotel and hospitality sector.
The Singapore office will initially focus on growing its team, with the majority of the team members based in Hong Kong. As the firm establishes its presence in the Singapore market, it plans to expand its team further by adding more fee earners and service lines to enhance its offering.
Simon Ridpath, Managing Partner at Charles Russell Speechlys, says:
“Understanding how global wealth affects families and people is at the heart of what we do as an international law firm. Singapore is one of the leading private banking and wealth management centres globally. Given our areas of specialism in private client, dispute resolution and transactional services, its strong capital market and international arbitration offerings make Singapore a natural move for us.”
Jeffrey Lee, Partner and Head of the Singapore Office, says:
“Internationally, Singapore continues to rapidly climb the rankings as a hub for global business and there is so much going on in the country for businesses across all sectors.
We have a number of long-standing friends and contacts in the region; indeed, many of our existing clients have had a presence in Singapore for years, so it is tremendously exciting to now be establishing a physical presence there, so we continue to ensure we can provide all our clients – old and new – with the best possible service.”
