The corporate team which further supported the second transaction, was led by Ghada El Ehwany (pictured right), with the assistance of associate Marah Hashem.
First transaction
The first transaction involved advising AMEA Power on the development of a 1000 MWh solar power plant, along with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Following the successful completion of AMEA Power’s first solar project in Egypt, the company has now embarked on this new solar venture. Notably, this project marks the introduction of batteries into the country’s solar energy landscape and it is also the first Build-Own-Operate (BOO) solar development in Egypt to be constructed in phases.
Second transaction
Further, the second transaction included advising AMEA Power on the integration of a 300 MWH BESS into the existing 500 MW PV project of Abydos Solar Power. This project integrates Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to optimize renewable energy use, ensuring a stable power supply. This helps balance the grid, cut down on fossil fuel dependence, and manage power fluctuations.
Mohamed El Harmy, partner at Helmy, Hamza & Partners, who led the Baker McKenzie Cairo team on the transaction, said: “The successful completion of these pioneering projects signifies a monumental step in Egypt’s journey towards a sustainable and resilient energy future.. Our collaboration with AMEA Power highlights our unwavering commitment to advancing innovative renewable energy solutions that not only enhance our energy transition capabilities but also strengthen our longstanding partnership with AMEA Power. These projects are a testament to our dedication to shaping a greener future for Egypt and the region.”
