A&O Shearman Announces Senior Leadership Roles

Major law firms Allen & Overy (A&O) and Shearman & Sterling (Shearman) announced the first wave of senior leadership roles for their upcoming combined firm, A&O Shearman. The appointments will be effective on May 1, 2024, marking a significant step towards finalizing the merger between the two legal giants.

  • Khalid Garousha, currently A&O’s interim global managing partner and Middle East and Turkey regional managing partner, will take the helm of A&O Shearman as its first senior partner.
  • Hervé Ekué, Shearman’s current Paris managing partner, will assume the role of managing partner for the combined firm.
  • Adam Hakki, who serves as senior partner at Shearman, will take on dual leadership responsibilities. He will co-chair the global board and executive committee of A&O Shearman, providing strategic direction for the firm’s future. Additionally, Hakki will lead the firm’s U.S. business as chair.
  • Doreen Lilienfeld, Shearman’s current global managing partner, will join Hakki as co-managing partner of the U.S. business. This combined leadership structure ensures continuity and strong client service focus in the crucial U.S. market.

Both Hakki and Lilienfeld will continue to represent clients alongside their leadership responsibilities, leveraging their deep legal expertise to benefit both existing and new clients of A&O Shearman.
