Al-Tamimi & Company with Acelen on financing for biorefinery in Brasil

Al-Tamimi & Company acted as ADGM counsel to Acelen Renewables in connection with the financing for the construction and operation of a 20,000 BPD biorefinery located in São Francisco do Conde, Bahia, Brazil. The facility is designed to convert vegetable oils and/or animal fats into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.

The legal team

The Al-Tamimi & Company team was led by partner Mark Brown (head of projects, pictured left) and associate Marianna Margaritidou (banking & finance, pictured right). The corporate team — comprising Nour Srour, Sabaa Mahmood, and Jane Espanto — and the tax team — comprising Rachel Fox and Nawel Benaisa — also contributed to the ADGM structuring aspects of the transaction.

On the client side, the Acelen Renewables team was led by Raphael Pinciara, while the Mubadala Capital team was led by Richard Sobkiewicz.

Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom acted as international counsel to Acelen, with a deal team led by Julia Czarniak, Thomas Perry, and Annalise Groves.
